Notice Communities in Bloom is a national organization dedicated to the promotion of green spaces in urban settings. Within the actual context of climate changes and environmental concerns, communities involved in the program can be proud of their efforts, which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions and benefit all of society.

Kamloops has proclaimed itself Canada's Tournament Capital and certainly lives up to these expectations. Not only are the facilities first class, their setting is spectacular. In particular, one sports complex is McArthur Island with its new baseball stadium, its Olympic ice surface and facility, numerous soccer pitches and ball diamonds. In the development of this park, significant environmental considerations were addressed through sound water management, energy efficiencies for its sports operations and LEEDS certification for its building construction.

Winterlights Celebrations

In March of 2010 Kamloops won the Winterlights Celebration in the Over 50,000 category and continues the trend of winning national awards for community and urban beautification. The Winterlights Celebrations is the winter edition of the popular Communities in Bloom program.

During the months of November and December, trained volunteer judges evaluate participating communities on five program criteria: Visual Presentation, Festive Season Celebrations, Winter Pleasures, Goodwill Programs and Tourism & Promotion.
