Aberdeen Area Plan
October 2008
A major planning initiative of the Development and Engineering Services Department since the fall of 2007
was the preparation of the Aberdeen Plan.
The Plan focuses on providing direction for lands identified in KAMPLAN as Special Development Areas or surrounding lands either in the Agricultural Land Reserve or vacant land.
One of the underlying needs for the Plan was meeting the projected future population growth forecasted in KAMPLAN; specifically, the need to accommodate upwards of 10,000 new residents in the Plan area. Major goals of the Plan included balancing this growth in a sustainable manner and recognizing and protecting the important environmental values of the neighbourhood.
Significant public input was obtained through open houses and neighbourhood meetings. City staff also worked with the various owners of large land holdings to determine appropriate land use patterns; and, the Grasslands Conservation Council (GCC) worked with the City in broadly determining the important environmental values. The GCC supports the plan.
The Aberdeen Plan functions as a statement of Council and presents policies and direction regarding the following:
On November 18, 2008, City Council officially adopted the Aberdeen Area Plan as the guiding document for future land use in the Aberdeen neighbourhood.
