Chinese Cemetery
Explore the Chinese Cemetery with local author and historian Sylvia Gropp, where you'll discover the origin of the cemetery, its distinctive elements and layout which makes this cemetery one of the few remaining intact historic Chinese cemeteries in Canada. Learn about the burial practices and hear stories of its inhabitants. Due to the terrain of this cemetery, proper footwear is a must.

About the Author
Born and raised in Kamloops, BC. Sylvia Gropp has a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in Archaeology and Geology and has participated in digs
on First Nations reserves and the Wildlife Park. For over a decade Sylvia has worked with the Kamloops Museum & Archives as a contractor and enjoys
teaching history to people of all ages. She is a married and has a daughter who also shares Sylvia's love of exploring the Museum.
Currently, Sylvia is co-writing a book with the Kamloops Museum & Archives and the Thompson Rivers History and Heritage Society. The book will explore the history of Kamloops, and how the amalgamation affected the different areas of town. Concentrating on oral histories to provide an "authentic feel", her book will also explore stages of property development from pre-emption/crown grant to subdivision.
