Kamloops, B.C. - The Kamloops Masters Sunstrokes claimed multiple top three finishes at the 2012 Canadian Masters Swimming Championships in Kelowna, May 18th to 21st. The Sunstrokes placed 4th overall out of 88 teams comprised of 500 swimmers from across Canada, the United States and the U.K.
Twenty-one swimmers from Kamloops competed in the sold-out event ranging in age from 20 to 74 years. Kamloops Masters Swim Coach, Theresa Zunich, was impressed by her swimmers' performance, "Buoyed by the team's new swim caps and suits, our swimmers 'ruled the pool' with solid efforts and a true team spirit."
Top finishers in their respective age groups were Ann McGrath with a gold place finish in the 100 metre and 200 metre freestyle, silver finishes in 50 metre fly and 50 metre freestyle and a bronze place finish in 50 metre breaststroke; Madison McGregor had two gold place finishes in the 50 metre backstroke, 400 and 800 metre freestyle, a silver place finish in the 100 metre backstroke and two bronze place finishes in 100 metre fly and 200 metre backstroke; David Culver finished in gold place in 1500 metre freestyle, claimed the silver in 200 metre backstroke and 400 and 800 metre freestyle, and had bronze medal finishes in 100IM and 200 metre freestyle; and Alex Sherwood had a gold medal finish in 200 metre backstroke, silver medal finishes in the 50 and 100 metre backstroke and 400 metre freestyle, and bronze medal finishes in 100 and 200 IM.
Finishing in the top three were swimmers Naomi Pickrem, coming in 2nd in 200 and 800 metre freestyle and 3rd in 100 IM and 400 metre freestyle; Lieren Milton-Wood took the gold place finish in 200 metre freestyle and the bronze spot in 400 metre freestyle; Sarah Boice finished in the silver medal spot in the 800 metre freestyle; Chris Whyte with a bronze medal finish in 800 freestyle; Jeremy McParland swam to a silver medal spot in the 200 metre freestyle and a bronze medal finish in the 100 IM and 50 metre breaststroke; Dmitry Sorokin had two silver medal finishes in the 50 metre freestyle and 50 metre fly and a bronze place finish in the 100 metre freestyle; and Mike Bishop finished in the bronze medal spot in 200 metre freestyle.
