Way Back When
In 1993, Kamloops' first water park was developed in Riverside Park. The project became a reality after a four year joint effort between K-97 and Variety Club and was officially opened to the public on Canada Day. This "water smart" park was the first of its kind in B.C., where water from the taps is collected into a tank, cleaned, and re-circulated. The water park's design incorporated three unique characteristics of the Kamloops area: river, railway, and ranching. These themes were captured in the 'river' island, lookout tower, water wheel, spray tunnel, water geysers, playhouse, and cable ride. To convert the existing wading pool and add the structures for the new water park, the cost was $143,000.

Since 1993, the City of Kamloops has continued to make changes and upgrades to the water park, necessary for the continued enjoyment of local and visiting families. The water park provides a refreshing reprieve during the hot dry summers for which Kamloops is famous.
